They might not look like it but these are the first images of the initial processes of making The Anniversary Bust which will feature the heads of both Basil and Damian and will be a celebration of their lives and what they stood for.Our chosen sculptor John McKenna has completed most of the basic work and researches and will be meeting up with Shaun D’Oliveira in June to look at the final batch of images of both men. The images show the very start of the portrait heads, the armatures, this is what the clay portraits sit on, a stout support, with aluminium wire cage to hold the clay head mass - otherwise the wet soft clay can collapse.

Anniversary Bust
This page will bring you photos and updates of the progress of the creation of our Anniversary Bust of Basil and Damian
The concentration of John McKenna is portrayed here, as he works on the early stages the combined bronze bust of Basil and Damian. He is working on the early stages of Damian, blocking clay out, arranging axis of head on shoulders and some basic details. John has met up with members of the D’Oliveira family who have also supplied photographs, he will continue to liaise closely with them as works progresses, all of this to ensure a great final work of art. Although John lives and works in Scotland now, he has a great affinity with his subjects as he was born and bred in Worcester and actually went to primary school with Damian. It is hoped that the Sculpture will be completed for unveiling in November of this year, more updates to come.
